Devotional for week of December 12, 2011.
THE PROMISED MESSIAH (CHRIST) Since the creation of the world and mankind, there has been"none righteous, no, not one." Being righteous means being in a right state with God. All down through the centuries to the present time, we have not been able to obey and please God. It started with the disobedience of Adam and Eve, continued through the murder of Abel by Cain and still continues today in us and our present society. Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. God gave the Israelites the Law through Moses, and they were unable to keep it. The other countries of that area and time did not even try to keep the Law. If they knew anything at all of it, they ignored it. Because of our Judeo-Christian heritage we are a country based on laws, but we do not keep them. There is not a one of us who does not break the laws of God. People are unable in their own power and strength to obey and please God. God knew before He created man that human beings would need a Savior. Without a Savior, we are all under a death warrant. God's plan for salvation was in His mind before Creation. In Genesis 3:15 He said to the serpent, Satan, "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will crush your head, and you will strike His heel." This is the first promise in the Holy Bible of a Savior. The prophets of God, in the Holy Spirit, through the centuries, prophesied that a ruler would be born to the people of Israel, who would be the Savior of the world. For example, Isaiah 9:6 says, "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Again in Isaiah 11:1, Isaiah prophesied, "A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit." (Jesse was the father of David, the greatest king Israel ever had.) Micah 5:2, "But you, Betlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Judah." Throughout the Old Testament prophecies are given, pointing to the coming Messiah (Hebrew), Christ (Greek) (The Anointed One). PRAISE BE TO GOD FOREVERMORE!!! HALLELUJAH!! WOW is all i can say it seems as if january was just yesterday! but december is here and everyone is excited about it. Enjoy your Christmas season!
